Historic pram brand boosted by new products and overseas expansion

Silver Cross, a historic nursery brand based in Broughton near Skipton, has increased turnover by over 10 per cent in its latest figures, following the development of new products and expansion overseas.

The company was established in Leeds in 1877 by William Wilson, creating coach built baby carriages which are still used by celebrities and royalty today, first providing a pram for King George VI.

For the year ending 31 December 2017 the business reported turnover of £37.4m, rising 10.3 per cent on its £33.9m turnover in 2016.

The company said launching two new products to the UK market, coupled with organic growth in existing ranges, boosted its turnover.

A spokesperson at the Silver Cross Group said: "Silver Cross continues to invest in new products and in high quality people to continue its global expansion with a key focus on the United States and China.

"Sales in 2017 continued to grow despite retail in the UK being very challenging and International growth was fuelled by existing mature markets such as Russia, Middle East and Australia. Significant investment was made in the establishment of a European office in Barcelona, further expansion of our China operation in Shanghai and increased staff in the United States.

"Silver Cross continues to be a proud Yorkshire brand with a heritage spanning 141 years and the current expansion of our head office in Broughton North Yorkshire is another example of investment in jobs for the local area."

During 2017, Silver Cross bought pram brand Micralite. The company has also partnered with Aston Martin and had a licensing deal with Marie Chantal for product design.
