Scalp Cooling Firm Secures First Japanese Export Deal

Paxman, the scalp cooling specialist, is launching its products in Japan after receiving regulatory approval.

The Huddersfield-based company manufactures a scalp cooling system with cold caps which is used by patients undergoing chemotherapy to reduce the temperature of the scalp in order to minimise and prevent hair loss.

Paxman supplies its products to 98% of hospitals in the UK and has over 3,000 machines in medical facilities around the world including in the US, Turkey, Mexico and Australia. Paxman. Following successful trials in five of Japan’s leading cancer clinics, the company has now received regulatory approval to start supplying its products to the Japanese market.

The launch will further boost collaboration between Paxman and Century Medical, one the largest medical device distributors in Japan. The Japanese firm has already placed an order for 20 Paxman scalp cooling systems in order to install the devices at Tokyo Medical Center Hospital and Kyoto University Hospital, with deliveries due to start in June.

The company has been manufacturing products from its Huddersfield base since 1997 and helped establish the Made in Britain organisation.
