Dewsbury-based precision engineering company, Sewtec, has won the Exporter category in this year’s Yorkshire Post Business Excellence Awards.
The business this year announced its plan to double its turnover over the next five years to £32m, and its intention to create a further 80 highly skilled jobs to support its mechanical design, engineering, software and sales functions.
In the first quarter of 2018, Sewtec won £10m of orders from customers in the UK, Ireland and the US as well as recruiting another eight people to join its growing team. Export now accounts for almost 85% of the company’s sales as it continues to compete successfully in manufacturing automation on the global stage.
Sewtec’s automation solutions have been installed throughout the world, including USA, Brazil, Germany, South Africa, China, Dubai, India, Russia, Japan and Australia. Its clients include Swiss giant Nestle and US headquartered multinationals Mars, Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson and Abbott.
The company’s innovative approach has delivered a number of benefits to customers enabling them to consistently increase product efficiency while also minimising disruption and growing profits.
The judges also gave a special mention to Huddersfield-based family business Paxman Coolers which exports scalp cooling products globally for those undergoing cancer treatment.
Also commended were ExportExchange patron M2r Education, along with the other finalists tractor parts supplier Emmark in Pudsey, and Normanton-based print group Hague.
