Symington plans to sell noodles to the Chinese

Leeds convenience food manufacturer Symingtons is expanding into the Far East with plans to sell its range of noodles to Chinese consumers!

The company, which makes branded meals and snacks for many leading brands, said that it was in ‘detailed discussions’ to supply its range, including its Naked Noodle instant noodle product, into Chinese supermarkets.

Chief executive John Power MBE said: “Who’d have thought we could sell noodles to the Chinese? But I’m pretty sure we’re going to be this year.”

The expansion into the Chinese market forms part of Symingtons’ turnaround strategy as it aims to increase sales and grow its customers. As well as having the Mug Shot, Naked Noodle, ilumi, Chicken Tonight and Ragu ranges, the company also produces foods under long-term licence with Aunt Bessie’s savoury baked range, Ainsley Harriott, Golden Wonder and multiple children’s licences including Peppa Pig.

Last year, Symingtons returned to profit with net pre-tax profit for the year to August 2017 at £1.7m and turnover of £115m.
