Medical device manufacturer Tissuemed, which is based in Leeds, is celebrating after being recognised in the Medilink North of England Healthcare Business Awards.
The company received the Export Achievement Award after a strong year of overseas sales, with growth in China and India generating a 75% increase in exports for the firm.
The Medilink Healthcare Business Awards recognise and celebrate organisations which are improving patient care. Winners of the Export Achievement Award must demonstrate how they have maximised opportunities to exploit and develop new markets, or display outstanding performance in other areas of international trade.
Tissuemed, which was established in 1985 and is a patron of the ExportExchange network, designs and manufactures surgical sealant for clients around the world. Its self-adhesive TissuePatch product is used to prevent leaks during and after surgery, complementing traditional wound closure techniques.
The company exports TissuePatch to over 25 countries and secured regulatory approval for the sealant in China in 2017, tapping into a market worth more than £30bn. The approval saw the firm claim the Outstanding Achievement Award at Medilink’s 2017 North of England Healthcare Business Awards.
Tissuemed’s export progress also received a boost early last year when its managing director, Peter Maver, was named as a delegate for the Northern Powerhouse trade mission to the Arab Health medical exhibition in Dubai.
The latest export award win will see the firm automatically nominated for the Medilink UK National Healthcare Business Awards in the Export Achievement Category, with the ceremony taking place at the Med Tech Innovation Expo in Birmingham in April.
